Booker and Fox New Head Coaches for Liberty and Freedom!
LAKE COUNTY, IL; AUGUST, 2016. Former Lake County Liberty stars, Alex Booker and Jill Fox will take the reigns of the 18U Lake County Liberty and 16U Lake County Freedom, respectively, next season! Booker and Fox bring a wealth of travel, collegiate, and in the case of Booker, pro experience to their new roles.
After coaching the Liberty since its inception in 2002, Head Coach Mike Maguire is stepping down from coaching to spend more time with his family and ever-growing number of grandkids. Mike's legacy will live on as a program co-founder and one of the most successful coaches Lake County Fastpitch has ever had. Mike will remain on the LCFSA Board, as well as be an advisor to the new coaches.
Filling Mike's Liberty head coaching shoes will be Alex Booker, who starred in travel ball for three years with the 18U Liberty, in college with the University of Illinois Illini where as a speedy power-slapping starter she led the team in hits, RBI, triples, stolen bases, and on-base percentage while sporting a .371 batting average and .944 OPS, and in the pros with the Chicago Bandits professional fastpitch softball team where she was part of their 2015 national championship team.
Alex began her collegiate coaching career at Texas A&M University at Commerce where she assisted with all aspects of softball and obtained her master's degree. She also coached at Arkansas Tech University, resulting in a team that won the Great American Conference softball title and qualified for super regionals. Since coaching at the collegiate level, Booker has moved back to the Lake County area and has been hosting camps, clinics, and group lessons in the area.
Jill Fox is entering her senior year at Minnesota State University Moorhead, where she is studying Life Science Education and minoring in Coaching. She is the starting second baseman on their softball team, where she was named to the All-Conference Academic team. Jill attended Warren Township High School in Gurnee, Illinois, and as the varsity shortstop earned All-Conference, All-Area, and All-State honors both junior and senior year. Jill won ASA nationals, and finished the last two years of her travel career on the Lake County Liberty, where she was recruited by Minnesota State.
Jill has a passion for softball and loves helping others take their skills to the next level through hard work and commitment. Her experience in coaching has included a variety of age levels, from coaching middle school softball team for two years, to assisting in skills training at the Warren Township High School summer softball camps. Last summer, Jill recruited and ran her own softball skills camp. She has spent the summer of 2016 being the Assistant Coach for the Lake County Freedom prior to being named the Head Coach for the 2016/17 season.
Former Liberty, Maddie Zazas, Garners Player Of The Week Award!!
WAUKESHA, WI; March 22, 2016. Former Lake County Liberty and Mundelein High School standout, Maddie Zazas, has been named the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Position Player of the Week. Zazas, a freshman infielder and lead-off hitter at Concordia University Wisconsin, earned the honor after blistering opponents' pitching for a .500 clip in the Falcons' recent Florida road trip. Her hitting was hotter than the Florida weather!
As of this writing, Zazas is also hitting .500 for the season and has 12 RBI and 10 runs scored in the team's 13 games so far this year. She leads the Falcons in batting average, hits (22 in 13 games), doubles, triples, total bases, runs scored, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and an incredible 1.213 OPS.
LCFSA teams play a very competitive summer and fall schedule with top opponents, and for the older players, top college exposure tournaments. With all of our players, we expect a strong work ethic; respect for coaches, other players, parents, and officials; and an "always hustle, never quit" attitude. While winning is always important, character development, academic success, and the "joy of the game" are equally important goals of the program.
